The Ontario and the Federal Pay Equity Act impose obligations on employers in the Province to achieve and maintain pay equity. Understanding which legislation applies to your organization is critical. The speaker will walk through the requisite steps required to achieve pay equity under each of the statutes. There will be a discussion about what the obligation to maintain pay equity entails. Understanding the risks and financial consequences of non-compliance will be essential for participants to appreciate. Along with a brief discussion about enforcement mechanisms.

  • Ensure participants have a good understanding of the basic steps required to achieve and maintain pay equity.
  • Allow participants to identify any vulnerabilities their organization may have from a compliance perspective.

Carolyn Kay

In addition to her labour and employment law practice, Carolyn is one of the leading lawyers in Ontario with extensive pay equity expertise that extends to both Ontario and Federal Pay Equity. Carolyn regularly advises employer on all aspects of compliance and have provided training and spoken regularly about pay equity, to employer groups, on webinars and to individual employers. Carolyn has taught the Pay Equity Certificate Program for HRPA for over 10 years and counting. Carolyn represented employers in complaints and litigation before the Ontario Pay Equity Commission, Pay Equity Hearings Tribunal, and now the Federal Pay Equity Commission.
